I was wondering if it is Possible to have the Bolt On edge and Tooth Bar on at the same time. If so how hard is it to get the Tooth Bar on and off with the Bolts of the cutting edge?

I want to have the strongest cutting edge possible to try to ensure not bending the front of the Bucket.

I have a toothbar on my HD bucket with a bolt on cutting edge. Mine is made by a company called FFC. It is "extra heavy duty".

My concerns were the same as yours. My bucket originally came with a bolt on edge, but it was among the missing when I purchased my tractor used. The weld on cutting edge is about 5"x9/16". The new bolt on edge is 5/8"x6". The bar of the toothbar is 3/4"x4" The bottom of my bucket is now very rigid.

I have no difficulty removing the toothbar even with the bolt on bolts. My bar is heavy, about 120 lbs. I remove the bolts, set the bucket on the ground and back up.

I believe there are 3-4 companies that make a toothbar that will fit a bucket with a bolt on edge. They will all make up the bar according to measurements you have taken of your bucket. As you can see, the shanks of my bar fit nicely on the bolt on cutting edge, then there is a step and the shank sits solidly on the weld on edge. The bar rests on the "wrap".

Toothbars for bolt on cutting edges will be more expensive than ones for a weld on edge. Hope this helps.

Pardon the orange. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Michael_E_Tx,

If you don't mind me asking , what did you pay for your TB from FFC?

Was it custom ( did you specify the number of Teeth and Spacing )?

I did a Google on FFC and connot find their Web Site. Could you post or PM me with contact info for FFC.

Thanks.

Don't mind at all. I assume you are sitting down. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif About $650. I got the "extra heavy duty" model The only difference between it and the "heavy duty" seems to be that the HD has fabricated points and the EHD has cast points that are replaceable. Seems like the difference in price was around $100.

Wasn't custom, except that the bar is fabricated specifically based on the measurements you provide. Spacing determined by bolt-on edge bolt pattern. You will notice the teeth on my bar are not evenly spaced. 8 teeth is standard for a 72" bar.

Not surprised you can't google FFC. I learned of them through another TBN member's post. Since I bought mine, they have been subsumed under yet another corporate entity. Parent company Their own website is here Tooth bars are listed under buckets and grapples. They don't sell to the public. My tractor dealer became an FFC distributor and got it for me.

Merry Xmas. Michael

Deer hunter; I built my own just a carbon copy of the one IH3444 shows with 7 teeth. I bought the components ( teeth and shanks ) from the Cat dealer and a piece of 3/8 x 4" steel from a local steel yard. Total cost was less that $125.00 Weld with low hydrodgen rods. Two side bolts and the shank bottoms keep it in place. Weighs about #125. I figured the freight on a factory made bar would be close to the price of the materials involved. Two seasons old, no signs of stress.
