I ordered my toothbar on Wednesday and received it today. I had a 5' Markhem on the other tractor I sold and it wasn't slotted. This one on the 6 footer was. I guess it's so you can loosen the nuts, slide it and flip the bar up if needed and keep it attached. I mounted it with the holes to the front of the slot but my hands were too darn cold to loosen them and see if it clears the edge of the bucket when slid in the slots....Nice toothbar and great communication..

That's a good looking toothbar you got there.

I haven't seen anyone give a definate indication for the slotted holes in the Markham toothbar or the proper way to use them. I suppose it could be for a margin-of-error. Or, like you said, so that you can loosen them then flip the bar up and use the regular cutting edge without taking the toothbar off. That seems like the most likely reason for them. But, it would seem to me, that if you put the bolts all the way toward the back of the slots that it would have a more difficult time loosening up. I don't know. I am probably going to be ordering my toothbar from Markham either this week or next. I may have to ask them then.

Don't bother Glowplug, I just sent johnk's posting to Melissa at Markham and asked her if the slotted hole was intended for what johnk guessed it was. As soon as I get a reply, I'll let both of you know. She is really good about responding to emails.

I had a Markham toothbar for the tractor I sold (54" bucket) and just last week ordered a new 60" toothbar from Markham for my new tractor...

ordered on 1/9, they shipped same day for delivery on 1/10 ...but UPS lost it! (how do you lose a 65 lb x 5 ft hunk of metal? ) Markham put a tracer on it but UPS can't seem to find it (it's in Baltimore SOMEWHERE  )...anyway, Markham made me a new one and shipped it today, so I should have it tomorrow...Markham is top notch in my book :)

I've got the answer to the "slotted" toothbar question. It is because, "us guys are guys". Read Melissa's response to johnk's question:

The slot is to ensure the perfect fit, sometimes you guys get in a hurry to install the bar and get it really really tight, then mark your holes and drill away. then you end up not being able to fit the bar back in the original spot. So the slots ensure that if you by chance get the bar a little to tight to begin with no matter what your bar will still fit, you can tighten it down and still feel safe that it is on nice and tight.

If you have any more questions, please let me know, that's why I'm here, to make sure you guys know everything possible about the attachments before you buy something you may not need for the honey do list you find stuck to the refrigerator.

Now that is funny! So I guess the 'best' thing to do is to aim for the center of the slot. I have sent Melissa about a dozen e-mails or more over the past few months. I always get a nearly immediate response back (as long as it's not in the middle of the night). Markham is great! I think I will go ahead and order my toothbar and probably my grapple from them as soon as I get a chance.

John
I have one of the Markham toothbars and when I got it about three years ago, it only had one hole in it, I slotted it like yours for the same purpose and it works as you intend, I had to trim the bottom corner of the mounting bracket to get it to clear the bottom of the bucket as it swings up into the bucket, you may not have to do that as the end of your slot may be closer to the end of the mounting bracket. You've got one tought tooth bar there.

The one I bought 3 or so years ago also had the single hole. I reefed the slotted one on there for now. I'll try the flip when I get a chance.

Just ordered mine today. Melissa is wonderful, patiently answering a myriad of dense email questions. Lookin' forward to yet-another-tractor-toy, er, tool!

I paid 289 and I think it was 33 or 34 dollars shipping for a 6 footer......

That is definitely NOT a good looking toothbar!! It badly needs to have most of the paint ground off, a good thick coat of mud between the bucket and bar edges, and a few small root remnants hanging off it!

The only problem is I have fluffy snow up here not mud or red clay.. The paint will definitely be worn off soon as the weather breaks........At times I wished I'd live in Tennessee but it's tough to spell the States name..........

I was quoted $289 plus shipping for a 72-incher. I think shipping for me was 60-some dollars. That's overnight freight too!

Now come on Chuck! You waited what seemed like years to decide on a tractor to buy, you waited weeks for it to be trucked over from another dealer and preped and you waited more time to determine if some options were going to be delivered or not. And now you're having the tooth bar overnighted??? Now that is over the top!

(good job!)

John, you made a very good point. Chuck is now over the top!!!

When it comes to tractors, I would say that we are all over the top! Isn't it great!!!!

Over the top? I think I am going to get a toothbar and grapple overnighted tomorrow or the next day! If I had the money I would be out of control. I'd probably be buying a new implement every few days. Pretty soon I'd have a collection of implements so big that I'd have to build a 300,000 square foot warehouse to store them in. I need to win the lottery!! I just don't know what you mean by I'm over the top though.;)
