not sure what u r referring to here, but i am thinking a “pen” that has acid in it and u simply write on metal. It leaves a dark stain. Cant be wiped off.
Got any brand suggestions?

Thanks,

Peter

I think I can truly say that I have never lost a tool to anyone's hand but my own. If y'all are losing tools like that maybe security cameras are a better investment.

Easy way is to take a grinder/cut off wheel & put 1, 2, or 3, notches on the handle, head, grip - whatever. Doesn't take much - just make sure your friends don't use the same number of notches!

We haul many a tools into the field to clear trails and like to mark them with our name and phone number via permanent markers. This isn't for thieves but for when people simply find them out there so they can text or call us. You wouldn't believe how many we've got back that way. At home they're stored in a unlocked garage..

I HATE people like you!!!! :D A couple of years ago I came out of the grocery store and noticed a bank envelope behind my truck which didn't look empty. I picked it up and there was $50 CASH!!!! I looked again and there was a withdrawal slip with the bank and account #. 👎 :(
I dropped it off at the local PD/Firestation, where they were glad to take care of returning it back to the rightful owner.

The sharpie corporation makes different grades of marking pens and we use the most durable grade in black and silver colors. We also put blue and white vinyl tape on tools to make them more visible while in the field.

I like painting the handles bright yellow. They are easy to see in the grass.

We don't use yellow due to fall colors. Blue is a color that rarely happens in nature.
It disappears easily in snow conditions, however. We've gotten away from using blue flagging because it's difficult to see against the green background in summer; and in winter often is hard to see when the sun is on the snow.

So now I'm curious what colors do you find useful?

All the best,

Peter

Marking them so I can recognize them is not my issue I like my tools marked so at a glance other people can recognize is not theirs I don't think I have a problem with people stealing them its just them accidently getting mixed up when working with someone else so bright spray paint all over not a little dot or initials it has to be something you can't miss

We use day glo flagging. Forest Arctic Vinyl Flagging

A lot of people use orange, although I prefer the pink. It doesn't blend with the leaves in fall as easily; but mainly because in years past it didn't fade the way that orange tended to do. Sometimes I will use pink and blue together, for flagging areas such as streams where the harvester operator needs to know where they are.

I started sand blasting and oiling all my tools. No one else did it and even if you paint colour on it or engrave it you can't hide the blasted finish.
