Is there any difference except price, in a model 336 from Walmart as opposed to a gun shop? Walmart price $347, gun shop price anywhere from $399-$489.

Sometimes the wood might be different or the trim a little less at walmart.

Think something like remington ADL .vs a BDL

Four or five years ago I bought my stepson a Winchester 30-30. I went through a gun shop and spent about an extra $100 for a higher grade model.

I have never regretted that decision, the gun looks twice as nice as the base model. I am hoping that his children and grandchildren will cherish it...

If you're looking for functionality, the 336A model works and works well.
The 336C model is a little fancier and comes in .30-.30 or .44 caliber I think, but doesn't shoot any better, caliber for caliber.

For the 100 or 150 bucks your talking about on this particular rifle, I can't see spending the extra for cosmetics unless you plan on selling it one day.

Wallyworld is hard to beat, but if you look around you may be able to beat them.

I have a 336C 30.30 I bought from Wally World years ago. It's my favorite deer rifle and it has taken a beating over the years and kept on ticking. If it's going to be a hunting gun save the money, you won't be as worried about it getting scuffed up. That my two cents worth...

I have a 336W 30-30 I bought from WM several years ago. Its been a fine hunting rifle that hasn't let me down yet. In my opinion the WM 336 is probably the same as the one the gunshop is selling but WM got it cheaper than the GS so they can sell it for less.

These days it could be an a,c or w model 336 (technically it could be ss or another designation too but one is stainless and the other is in .308 marlin) If the model is the same it is the same gun:eek: -- even differences in wood are the luck of the draw! Wally mart will be cheaper cause of volume and pressure they can exert on Marlin. It would not be in WM's or Marlins interest to make a 336 just for sale there. If you look on the Marlin website you will see the differences in features between the models.

I own three Marlin 30/30 's bought at different times over the last 20 or so years.
I use one, wife uses one, and one used by my son
My Mod. 336CS has smooth noncheckered wood stock.
Wife Mod. 30AS has checkered wood stock
Sons Mod. 30AW has gold colored trigger and checkered wood stock.

These are the only differences I know of. In fact I did not even know they were all different Mod. numbers until I just checked after reading this post.
I/we are happy with the Walley World purchases.

I like the Marlin because of the side eject for mounting scopes. The top eject of the Winchester hinders scope placement.
