Marlin 30/30 Model 336

At dicks sporting goods, there are 336's with a scope for under 399, they go on sale sometimes down much closer to 300. if you dont need it know keep an eye pealed for it.
Also the savage 111 series is a great gun for the money and comes in a ton of calibers. has a free floating barrell and a metal clip. it is a much better firearm then some of the mossburg 4x4's that i have seen.
if its a lever you want also check out mossburgs lever actions they are so much nicer (100% better then their 4x4's). A smaller feeling gun, with more work done to the stock and fore. I have heard a lot of nice things about them.

A "gun safety course" won't teach the operation/breakdown of every type of action/caliber on the market. Gimme a break.

Forgive me -- I forgot about that different country thing -- Wally mart does not sell firearms in Canada because their clerks would not qualify to be able to sell them and their premises are not be considered secure enough.
To get a firearms license here you must take a "gun safety course" which teaches you the operation of every type of action (not its breakdown but how to load, unload, check for rounds, safety operation etc) and that if you don't know how to do those basics you should not even pick the firearm up.If you go to a gun store they will probably ask to see your permit before letting you touch the firearm.
Further you must be able to identify the different types of cartridges and identify the chambering of firearms so you don't do something stupid like trying to put a 30/30 round in a 30/06 chamber!
While I dislike many of our firearms laws here, the requirement for basic training is not one that I find either onerous or wish to see removed. Yes our firearms training course adds to the expense of gun ownership but there is an old saying -- "if you think education is expensive, try ignorance"
Oh yeah-- we also have two different courses for pistol and long guns -- pistol owners must take both, long gun owners only require the one for long guns.
I am not saying this setup is better or worse than whatever you have to do to get a firearm -- but I do like to know you understand the above when you have a gun anywhere near me:D

Problems after the sale are generally referred to the manufacturer as a warranty item. If warranty is expired, any gunshop/smith will work on it anyhow so it doesn't matter.

Besides, Walmart will take it back and exchange it within a reasonable time after the sale. Gunshops....good luck with that one. I say Walmart if they have what you're looking for.

I have been going to the same local gunshop for 30 plus years. My gunshop would take any firearm back if I had a problem.Maybe your gunshop is different?I want to add the local gunshop is usally cheaper on the price of guns verses Stinkmart.coobie

Studor, you should be scared if you come to US, thousands of people are running around here with concealed weapons,[just cause they could get a permit],who,if they ever decided they needed to pull it out could kill anybody[including themselfs] within 200 yards of you,and probably not even get close enough to scare the bad guy.

Bet most of them have been through a gun safety course too.

Greenmule --I hear you--unfortunately I don't believe an intelligence test is required anywhere for gun ownership or human reproduction:eek: - so some risks you just have to live with:D
