Just a little blog on some fun guns to own / shoot.

Over the years I have owned a variety of guns....but never really "took" to the Marlin brand until recently. I had a few savage 99's and Browning and Winchester lever guns.....but over the past two years I got bitten by the Marlin 94 and 39 lever actions, in carbine and Mountie models. (22 caliber and pistol calibers)

I just bought another Marlin 94 carbine, in 44 magnum yesterday. It was likely made in the 70's. It's a little rough from being a "truck gun".....but that is exactly my purpose for this gun...so we should get along fine. Has a nice peep sight...just like my other Marlins. It's going to ride in the scabbard on our golf cart or 4 Wheeler. Short, easy to pack, and easy to shoot....and has plenty of punch if Mr Bear makes trouble or a coyote wanders by.

We sure have had fun shooting these lever guns in pistol (357/44 mag) and 22 calibers this past year. Little recoil, yet plenty of short range punch. They are addictive.

Our steel plate range gets lots of use with these nifty little rifles and our handguns.

I've got the 1894c in .357/.38. It surely is a sweet rifle!! Compliments my Ruger New Vaquero (also .357) quite nicely...I feel like frackin' John Wayne when I'm carrying and shooting them!

If I ever purchase another Marlin gonna try to get one with a big loop. For those that know what that is.

You have pretty good taste Roy....that's the same gun combo I use when I'm "feeling western". One thing I have learned over the past year of shooting pistols: you need to shoot alot to shoot well. These little rifles are easy...the pistola's, not so much. I do prefer the 357 rounds over any other in these types of guns.....comparatively low recoil and low cost rounds.

Last year we had a few trail cam pics of a big black bear that was hanging out on my land (looked to be in the 350 to 400 lb range :confused2:). When checking my camera one morning.....I had a pic of the bear at first light....followed by a pic of my wife a few hours later. She wondered if the Rossi lever rifle (in 357 cal) we carry on "her" golf cart was enough gun for the bear (likely not).......so I decided we could use a better gun for my wife. ;) (We also had a Timber Wolf den, and reports of a Cougar wandering about in the neighborhood.....and their is always a few wild dogs and coyotes we see on occasion.)

I really don't expect a problem with these bears....but you sure feel better with a gun nearby that can get the job done. I think the 44 mag will carry a pretty good punch.....if I find the right bullets for it.

OH.....I'm willing to bet that the Duke would not wear a cap like that Roy.:laughing:

(no offense ;))

True, Big John probably wouldn't wear a Bull hat...but the Bull Hat isn't the only hat I have...one must dress for the occasion, mustn't one?

My 39 with skinner peep sight is one of my favorite guns, shoots like a laser beam. Has enough heft out front it shoots well off hand. Great rifles.
I have an older 1895 in 45/70 with a little 4x burris on it that's my thick cover / woods hunting deer gun. Bang flop deer goes down and that big slow bullet very little blood shot meat.

I wish I had back our family's old 39a we had back when I was a kid, I have many fond memories of that rifle. The darn things are so expensive now I cannot justify buying one new, and no one wants to sell theirs.

The peep sight on my 336 is augmented with a fibre optic front sight. For a brush gun and in rainy weather I like it better than a scope.
