Hi just took delivary of A used 1240 and while doing light
snow removal fwd stopped working.
Filled bucket and went to back up,but only rear wheels were powered. Fwd lever was in correct position [rearward] and
oil level was full.
I was wondering if their were any shear pins/ bolts to protect
fwd drive line from being over loaded.
I appreciate any help thanks'

Follow the lever for the 4wd down under the tractor. There is a pin (if I remember right) that attaches it to transmission. Check to see if the pin is sheared.

Did it work when you first got it? I have a 1240 16 speed manual shuttle and have found it to be a smooth and quiet tractor, I like it a lot. If you need to verify linkage I can look at mine for comparison.

It sure did ' and for every part of about ten minutes.
I guess that comes close to a thousand dollars A minute.
But at least i can keep a sense of humor about these things.
When I talked to the dealer they promissed to come by for A
look and resolve problem.
Any way thanks for your thoughts and I hope to be praising
my Massey like you do yours shortly.

I am sure that you will get it worked out. It will more than likely be something really simple. I had a MF 1250 and put almost 1300 hours on it. They are good tractors.

Mornin Greenhorn,
The good news is that you just took delivery of the tractor, hence should have some type of warranty /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Problem resolved' the dealer to a look and it and found the
snap ring on the drive shaft to the front differential came out of the retaining groove causing the coupler to slide back from
the input shaft to the diff.
Thank you all your suggestions.
