hey guys, just bought a 1972 massey ferguson 135 with the perkins 3cyl gas engine. The fella i bought it from has been using a 5foot bush hog with it, but i was thinking about running a 6 foot and was wondering how you guys with some experience with these older models, might think about it.

You almost need a 6 ft to cut out the track width. Ken Sweet

I used a 6' on my JD 520 (34 HP), handled it fine! Not sure, but I think your Massey is similar HP. ~~ grnspot110

 It will pull it without breaking a sweat through a field,
If your talking sapplings just a little slower should be just fine.
My 135 came with a heavy duty 5ft. and it has chopped some pretty knarly stuff and never had a problem so if I had a 6footer I'm sure it would be a non-issue, the diesel has 38hp @ the PTO

thanks for the help, guys. i will try the 6 footer and see how it goes. i cut mostly pasture so i think that will make it a little easier. i am really looking forward to trying out my new toy. i am hoping i made the right choice buying the massey 135. It seems to be a good tractor and hopefully will be fairly reliable. thanks again guys

My father and I have several Massey Ferguson's. My fathers 135 is my favorite. You won't regret your purchase. I love using it to ted and rake hay. I have used a five and six foot rotary cutter on the 135. It pulls it fine, except in heavy weeds. Just need to slow down and increase the RPM's to get a good cut. The only problem I had with the heavy six foot cutter, was the front end was light and difficult to keep on the ground for turning. I actually took out a section of my horse fence because the front wheels were slightly off the ground and couldn't turn quick enough. Until I can get some weights on the front, I went back to the smaller cutter.

It will pull it fine. Hook it up and never look back lol. Ive sold a few here and they all had 6' mowers with them.
