I have a mid 70's diesel. The power steering is out. The dealer says cut my losses and sell. Is this true or is he trying to sell me a new tractor. Other than the steering problem it does ok. Nothing pretty but I like the perkins diesel.

Anyone familiar with this type of power steering?

I'm familiar with it in one sense. I know enough about it to avoid it. Steering and front axle was the weak link on that tractor. Your dealer is being a little dramatic about it though. You're going to spend some big bucks. On the ones I've seen, every moving part related to steering and axle wears out. From what I've been told, if you have a dealer to do it, expect $1200 to $1500 (minimum) to fix it to where it will last as long as it did originally. (New parts from AGCO) Band-aid fix can buy you a little more time. Do it right if you're going to keep the tractor.

And you're absolutely right about those Perkins diesels.
