I have this older MF135 gasser with a Perkins engine. I have finally gotten it to fire up after it being in a shed for two years. I has a misfire about it. I changed the spark plugs and tried new plug wires ( automotive) and no improvement. Should I change coil, distributor cap, rotary button, plug wires? Fuel system has been cleaned, flushed out , new battery. Sound ole tractor and worth preserving.

Could be a sticky valve or worn rings.

With only 3 cylinders, you'll have an easier time locating the problem than a 4 or 6 cylinder engine ! Starting with the spark plugs and plug wires was a good idea. If you have ignition points and a condenser, try replacing them next. Make sure there's no dirt on top of the coil or distributor cap.
Clean the distributor cap inside and out, and look for cracks. You might try removing ( and grounding) one plug wire at a time to see which cylinder is weak. Any problem in the fuel and air intake system can cause rough running , including water getting into the air or fuel. As mentioned above, a sticking valve can cause rough running, so you might want to check the valve lash . An ample amount of a top cylinder oil added to the fuel ( I use Marvel Mystery Oil) , and an intake system fuel cleaner ( I use Chevron Techron) may solve the problem after a few hours of running. My Ferguson TO-35 has lots of hours on it, and very worn cylinder liners and piston rings, but still runs smoothly . It does burn some oil, and leaks some too, but that's ok for a tractor that gets only occasional and medium duty use.

Thanks for the advice and info. The alternator I think is shot also. When I pull the negative or positive cables from battery engine will die. Not giving up on this tractor yet

FYI... if distributor cap and rotor are hard to find, a 6cyl chevy cap and rotor from the mid 70's will work... use the plug wire holes you need, cap off the unused ones, every other one. Had to do that to my FIL's MF135, he thought I was nuts when I suggested it, just shook his head when it worked... that's as close to an 'atta boy' as I'll ever get after marring his daughter!

If it works then I would be happy with that. If I can find one with screw to hold it on dist instead of the L shape clamps.
