Massey ferguson 165 alternator and wiring issue

Hi I have a massey ferguson 165 deisel tractor. I think it's a 1972 (9A 139627). It had a generator I think and an external regulator. Also has switch underneath oil pressure gauge. The wiring has been worked on by the previous owners. It is in complete shambles. The previous owner said just to put the battery in and disconnect the wiring after starting. I need to get the wiring sorted out.

I have a 3 wire alternator and a 4 post ignition switch that I will be using. See attached wiring diagram that I came up with. Will that work? And if it would, what wire should goto the starter solenoid bolt labeled "R"??

I'm pretty sure it came out with an alternator, my 1972 i35 did.
The original wiring diagram is in the operators manual.
It should be the same as the perkins diesel in a MF135 operators manual.

Massey 100 seris tractors first came with generators and later production changed to GM alternators. If you install an alternator be aware the wire size should be increased as an alternator puts out a lot more amperage than a generator.
Massey used a two post two position switch when the tractor was equiped with a diesel engine. The switch was only for starting and was spring loaded to the off position. Since the temp and oil gauge are mechanical the oil pressure switch "turned" on and off the fuel gauge and alternator.
The original alternator did not have an integral regulator. The regulator was mounted on the panel in front of the dash. If you want an alternator recommend a GM 10 SI it has three terminals that need hooked up. Wiring one up can be found on the 'net. As for mounting bracket you can pick them up at any salvage yard that carries Massey. Just be sure you know what engine is in the tractor. It should be a 4 cylinder 203 ci.
