Massey Ferguson 1749 vs Kioti NX4510

   / Massey Ferguson 1749 vs Kioti NX4510 #11
My father owns a 1749 with cab and HST, he paid a little over 40k for his after adding extra rear remote and some other options to the tractor. His had to order his, took right at 6 months to arrive.

Been a great tractor for him, no serious issues so far, but if you're planning on lifting 2000lbs on the front you should know that the front tires are really loaded when he lifts close to that kind of weight, unless you have something heavy on the 3ph. for counterbalance. Also, he has to slightly rev the motor to 900 - 1000 RPM or it will not lift large, 5'x6' round bales on the front.

My dealer sells both Kioti & MF. He has had those lines for a long time and is a reputable and high volume dealer.

I have purchased a new Kioti from him, and tried to purchase a MF from him (but he couldn't get one for me, so I had to go out of state ... However, he said he'd gladly perform any MF warranty work regardless of where I purchased it from, since the sign on his business sports the MF flag!)

His opinion is that MF is a better built tractor, but that Kioti offers a better value. I also feel that the MF is of better build quality, but that the Kioti (currently the top Korean contender in my book) is close. Both of the tractors you are looking at are Tier4, so each may have growing pains as the systems are figured out. MF (built by Iseki in Japan) used Iseki diesels for a long time, in their MF tractors, as well as the cross brand twins (AGCO, Iseki, CAT-Challenger, etc)... However, they switched to Mitsubishi for their larger tier 4 stuff. Mitsubishi makes a good engine, but the Iseki diesels were very highly regarded. Kioti (Daedong) on the other hand, builds their own engines, including their new tier 4 series. I believe the MF-Mitsubishi engine uses a Bosch fuel system while Daedong uses a Delphi fuel system. Only time will tell which tier 4 system will be better.

The Kioti loader is rated to lift a little more, but the MF loader lifts higher. I have a 1648 HST cab and love it. The loader is very strong. I have picked up 2400lbs on a pallet (plus my forks weighing 375) with it.

I don't think either would be a bad choice. But two points I'd like to address:

1) If you go with the Massey, I'd recommend trying to get the DL130 loader instead of the "new version" DL135. The DL130 appears to be built sturdier and protects the hoses much better.

2) if you go with the Kioti, that price is too high. Here in Michigan, my local dealer has the nx4510 cab/loader for around $30k (search for a Kioti dealer in Armada Michigan...)

I actually do some equipment transport on the side, so if you find something near S/E Mich, contact me for a transport price.

Good luck!

Have you taken a ride to Eden Tractor and looked at the LS? The XR3037 and XR4046 are both over 2000 lb lift capacity.

I looked at LS (online) and like the tractor, but the lift height is a very big drawback for me and pretty much a dealbreaker, I have some very specific loader requirements. I'm going to Hamburg next week and may stop at Eden Tractor if I have time just to see the tractors in person.

Thanks for the info. My local dealer says if he would source one from another dealer, it would have the DL130, whereas ordering a new one would have a DL135. As for Kioti, my dealer doesn't even have one in stock, I would suspect it would be easier to get them down on price if one was sitting on the lot. Another caveat I'm trying to figure out is that I need to either trade or sell my Mahindra, but since I don't want to be out of a tractor for very long, if I decided to sell outright I'd either order a tractor as soon as the Mahindra is sold and hope it comes fast, or buy the new tractor and hope the Mahindra sells fast since having one without selling the other would make me pretty tight on cash.

I hear ya. When I bought my Massey, I still had my LS. It took about a month to sell the LS. But, selling it was a better option than trading, because I got a better sales price, and the buyer got a better price buying it privately than buying it from a dealer. It works out on both ends if you find the right buyer.

Also, if you go with MF and finance thru AGCO, they may be able to defer the first payment for a month or two ... Check with the dealer.

If I may, any reasons why you are not considering buying another Mahindra? I think the 5010 cab would be a good tractor to compare, especially because it is relatively cheap and it has a strong loader. Also, it looks like the fan favorite Mahindra 5035, is now available with a cab in tier 4. I believe it is now called the 3550. Folks seemed to be happy with that 5035 tractor and it was definitely built heavy compared to the other CUT'S. Not sure on pricing though.

I only bring up the Mahindra because you may do better on a trade price if going with another one, just a guess though.

I'm stopping at my Mahindra dealer next week to get some prices, but there's a couple reasons why Mahindra isn't at the top of the list. If I could even find a 5010 cab locally, it's over 500 lbs lighter than the Kioti. I know it's probably a good tractor, but I'm just not too excited about it being a TYM. I probably shouldn't worry about that part. The other thing is that I really like the electronic hydrostatic transmissions, both the Kioti and the Massey have pedal linked throttle, but the Mahindra doesn't.
As far as the new 3550 cab model, from what I'm hearing it would be out of my budget range. The 3540 cab should be around the same price as a Massey 1749.

BTW, Armada is only 290 miles from here if you go through Canada. Not sure how hauling a tractor through Canada would work, though.
