Massey Ferguson FE35
Hello everyone,

I have an old 1958 Massey Ferguson FE35 4cyl Diesel and in the original manual it states that the hydraulic fluid is straight mineral gear oil, sae 90 above 50 F and sar 80 below 50 F. Now that we are in 2011 times, what brand of hydraulic fluid is compatible with the 1958 manual??

Thank you for your help with this

napa sells 90wt gl1 oil in a 5g pail as part number 65-205

you could use an 80w90 gl5/mt1 gear oil that was yellow metal safe as well.

that scotch yoke piston pump was made to pump heavy gear oil. it's the same pump in the belly of a ford 9n... many people have swapped fords over to the thinner utf oils that appear to be more like a sae 30 oil. ford spec m2c134d

most fergy owners I talk to don't like the swap to the thinner oil and really do like the heavier oil.
