Jason, I had a 271 for short time, too big. Traded it back to the dealer after 25 hours and got a 263 with synchro shift (shuttle shift). A lot less noisy than the 271.
Don't have 4wd on the Massey but I do on another tractor and cannot imagine a FEL on a small tractor without 4wd. When the loader is loaded, unless you've got lots of weight on the back end, the wheels tend tend to slip - 4wd compensates nicely for this.
As you just about found out, rollover is easy with a loader, keep it low.
By the way, got my 263 for ~$18,500 if that helps.
