It appear the 679 prefix on the serial number could represent government purchased tractors. I think the serial number follows those three numbers. JMO. -kid

I sent you an email, from what research I've been able to conduct it would appear as my machine had a military dataplate at one time. They were attached to the hood on the left side under where the headlight would of been. I've had a collector send me a pdf file of the only known 'government 35' that I've been able to find parts manuals or information for, and those machines shared MF 35 utility serial number sequencing (serial starts with 655) The first two pictures are of my tractor, and the third is a picture that came off the internet of a similar tractor for sale, with the location of the military dataplate. You can actually access the 655 series government 35 parts manual through the online ago parts manual database. The only difference my machine has is that it has the adjustable ag front axle instead of the fixed industrial front axle.

The magazine 'Ferguson Furrows' (put out by FENA) has a nice article about these tractors in the October 2013 issue.

I'm still digging, as I would love to learn the story of these machines with this odd 679 serial number if I learn more I'll post info here. My email is: cszeg@mail.saabnet. com, if anyone has insight or knows of where any of these machines may be I would like to hear from you.
