Tractor is lower cost Special model, probably has a single stage clutch too. Deluxe models had tachometer and 2 stage dual clutch, much better for PTO work.

Much better when it's working, mine was owned by a chicken farmer, only PTO work I've done with it is tilling and it does that very well. Not as nice to engage / disengage the PTO but a minor inconvenience.

I have some property in another county south of Nashville and we have an old Ford 8n there. I feel your pain. Like you say, minor inconvenience, but ample power to get the job done.

Mine will engage / disengage the PTO fine with the clutch, I should have been clearer, borrowed my neighbours 1529 with a loader to move some manure to the garden and he had his tiller on the back, electric PTO engage, nicer to use than clutching at the end of each row.
