My wonderful old tractor overheats in about 15 minutes of hard work.
It isn稚 loosing water in the radiator.
I知 a mechanical novice and would appreciate advice from this knowledgeable forum regarding what I need to check/repair to overcome my problem.
How do you know it is overheating? If it's the temp gauge, check it against an infra red thermometer reading at the top of the radiator.
Usual causes of overheating:
Thermostat stuck closed
Loose fan belt
Collapsed lower radiator hose
Air side of radiator clogged with dirt or chaff
Radiator cap not holding pressure or wrong pressure rating
Clogged coolant side radiator passages
Eroded water pump impeller
Low coolant level
Ignition timing retarded
Carburetor fuel/air ratio too lean (spark ignition engine)
Check them out one at a time until you find the problem.
