I know some are always pondering getting a thumb for their hoe. I use mine for all sorts of tasks. I do wish the stock thumb had the teeth angled in like a bent finger. I'm actually planning on fixing that with a torch and welder. I was going to make it hydraulic but I don't use it enough to justify the time in installing/engineering.

I had a fixed thumb on my old tractor backhoe and it saved a lot of work. I intend on putting a hydraulic thumb on my full-size backhoe. It just looks sad in this picture.

I think every hoe should have a thumb. I have one on each of my machines, manual on the MF and hydraulic on the cat. It makes the bucket 50% more capable and twice as productive.

I have cut a lot of wood off the back of the 1710 using the thumb as well. Why kill your back when you don't have to.

Ditto on the thumb. One of the first add-ons I got, a Bro-Tek bolt-on. VERY handy to have!
