Thought this info might to helpful to a few others as well. Found this on JD's web site... lists approx weights per bucket loads (all struck capacity & includes a bucket weight of 153lbs)... Most owners here seem to recommend a bucket that is just wide enough to cover your tracks. I was also curious how much weight would actually be sitting in my bucket... Hope this is helpful to someone else as well...

49" bucket 53" bucket 61" bucket
5.7 cu ft 7.6 8.7 cu ft

Wood chips 256 297 347
Wet snow 438 540 625
Dry loam 586 738 851
Gravel 695 882 1017
Dry sand 723 920 1060

Don't forget manure...25#'s a cu foot gets you 295, 343, and 370 in those buckets...that's a lot of **** /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

That's really useful. Thanks for posting it.

Does anyone know if other manufacturers post data on the bucket capacities rather than just width? I cannot find that info for my Kioti 54 inch bucket.

hmph... Manure is doesnt weigh much more than wood chips. Interesting. My farm hand moves about 60 Cu Ft. of Horse manure and wood shavings, daily.

Interesting. Could have sworn my (guess it's 53") bucket held the same 1/2 yard (13.5 cu.ft.) as my Gravely cart. Can calculate the amount the cart will hold, but the uneven bucket wasn't possible to do so. In hauling mulch with both, they seemed to hold the same.

This is with the bucket brim full.

Tried to locate something for ya... but I couldn't find anything. Give your dealer a buzz. They should have something. Good luck.

The specs for most loaders and/or buckets will typically quote the bucket volume in terms of cubic yards. A typical CUT sized loader might have a 1/4 to 1/2 yard bucket or 0.25 to 0.5 cu-yds. It might also be expressed in cu-ft or cu-meteres, or liters, or some other measure of volume.

Sometimes two numbers are quoted - heaped and struck. Struck being if the material was level with the edges of the bucket (held open end up) as if a straightedge was pulled across, striking off the excess.

Heaped, while more closely matching real world use, is less precise because various materials "heap" at different angles. Water won't heap up at all while big chunks of sticky clay might hold an 80 degree slope without falling out of the bucket.

Convert the volume to cubic-feet.

Then multiply by the weight per cu-foot of the material in the bucket.

Some weights of common materials in lbs per cubic foot:

Aluminum, solid: 165
Brick, Red: 120 (packed solid)
Brick, Fire: 150 (packed solid)
Caliche: 90
Cement, Poortland: 95

Fir, Douglas: 33
Garbage: 30
Granite, solid: 163

Gravel, loose, dry: 95
Gravel, with sand, natural: 120

Gravel, 1/4 to 2, wet: 125
Gypsum, broken: 113
Hay, pressed: 24

Good stuff... thanks for the additional info /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Your loader operators manual should tell you the volume of your bucket, that's where I found mine. Mine says it's .43 cy.

Then to find weights of hundreds of materials (and information on just about anything else you can think of) get the Pocket Ref by Thomas J. Glover. It's an amazing little reference book.

That's because no tractor could lift a bucket full. /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif Gold is heavy. As I calculate, almost two and a half times as heavy as steel. Could your FEL lift 2.5 bucket loads of solid steel? /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

Just for completeness, here are the weights of steel, gold and silver per cubic foot. What size is your bucket??? /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Steel 490 pounds/cubic foot
Silver 656 lbs/cubic foot
Gold 1208 lbs/cubic foot

My brave Kioti KL120 loader can lift 1100lbs total so I could lift less than one cubic foot of gold. However, I would not mind having someone load up 1100 lbs as current market value would be over $9 million. /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

Are those all the same oz/lb? gold is normally 12 oz/lb vs 16 oz/lb

LOL IslandTractor it was a joke, but thanks so much for the numbers.

Yes, I know it was a joke but I was interested (and on a boring conference call) so I looked it up the comparative weights per cubic foot. Then I could not resist wondering how much it would be worth if someone loaded up my FEL to the max with gold...

Let's put it this way, if it happened, I'd get more seat time and dispense with this silly day job business. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
