Max 24 ( It's Here cont'd )

So as you know it was time to carry this thread over to the owning and operating section.

Today I got home and decided to move some stuff around and get the mower deck back on the tractor to get ready for mowing. I decided to take the loader off to make the tractor as light as possible for mowing. All I'm going to say is I need practice at that, I'm not going to lie my poor neighbors probably heard me exercise some demons lol . So once I got the loader parked I was off to get the mower deck loaded on. I'm not sure what the fuss is with people being against MMMers, but it's actually pretty easy to drive over the deck and hook up. Like anything practice will make it easier over time. So now it's sitting already to go so I figured why not let's give it a go. Now I've never owned anything other than a 21" push mower, and I've got to say the deck cuts just as nice as any mower I've ever owned and tons faster. Yeah it's not a zero turn and no it doesn't mow at 10+ mph, however the 60" deck moves right along in low range at around 5 mph, and that's plenty fast for me.

I also have a MMM on my Max 26 XL. Very easy to hook up, and mows great. Backhoe is easy as well to remove and install. Have fun Donnie!

Thanks Cramby, the MMM cuts really good, better than anything I've ever owned. Sounds like you like the cut quality too. I was letting the grass get tall to establish a good root base and to let the new grass come up. Some spots were over a foot tall, the mower went right through it and left the lawn looking great. No scalping whatsoever, set the deck to float at 3.5" and let the rollers just glide above the ground and it looks really nice out there. Next on the list to get is a trimmer and we're good to go for the Summer. If it doesn't rain too much our little red neck hot tub will go up this weekend lol.

Brasco, what other attachments do you have for it? I looking at the 24 with MMM, FEL, backhoe, 5' tiller, and 5' box blade. Was wondering if you had experience with any of these?

At the moment I have the FEL, 5' BoxBlade, Chain Drag, and the MMM which I love and does a fantastic job. The Mower is easy really easy to drive over and easy to hook up. The Max24 pulls the 5' BB no problems, fully loaded without loosing traction in 4WD with R4s. I don't own a tiller or backhoe, maybe the backhoe in the future, just not enough work to justify it yet. I'll probably add a grapple to the loader before a backhoe. I'm planning on dropping some trees in the future and will need to move them around and buck them, the grapple will be great for that. Probably either grind, or rent a back hoe for stump removal for that. This little machine does a great job at what it does, and is built really stout. I like the loader and for me and what I do is plenty for me. Next winter for snow removal I'm thinking of try a set of Edge Tamers to remove snow without removing gravel from the driveway. As for the horse pens and riding rings they've never looked so consistently good! We love having this machine around ready and waiting for everything we do day to day to our future projects.

That's all good news. Interesting about the grapple over the backhoe though. I've been looking at purchasing about 6-15 acres within the next couple of months and was going to go with the backhoe to be able to dig out stumps. I figured I could cut the logs down to size on-site and haul them away with a trailer. Also, I figured it may be easier to finance in the backhoe upfront vs trying to purchase one later on down the road. I thought it would also help with resale should I attempt to sell it later down the road. I, too, don't think I have enough work to do with it on my existing property though.

How maneuverable do you find it to be? I currently live in a house in a subdivision on 1/2 acre. Like I said, I'm looking for more land and have put in some offers. Ideally, I would use this at both locations - maintain my existing lawn with the 60" deck and beds with the FEL, while also being able to transport it to work on clearing about an acre of the purchased land for a homesite.

I find the turning radius to be really good, and comes in handy for pulling the chain drag in the smallest of our horse pens. As far as the Backhoe or Grapple thing go with whatever suits your needs as everybody's is different. For mowing I don't know what your yard looks like, but I posted the pics of mine and it maneuvers it just fine, I don't have too many obstacles either. However I maintain the in laws property too with it as her parents are getting older, and they have way more obstacles up there and still do just fine.

1/2 Lot is a lawn tractor, 6 Acres raw land is bigger than a Max whatever.

I'm not looking at it specifically for the 1/2 acre. I'm looking at it more for 6+ acres of woodland lots that I have been submitting offers on. However, it will be used in both places. I'm not going to keep the JD x310 and the Mahindra Max 24.
