Does anyone know the max load on a Big Tex 14GN-28+5? Their site states it's GVWR is 15,900# and GAWR is 7000# each axle. Trailer weight is 5340#, so if you subject that from 15,900# you get 10,560". Give me only 10,560# to carry on trailer. Is this correct?
Thanks

10,560 is how I would figure it.

But there is no hard line in the sand when it comes to figuring these things out.

Bottom line, without scales, its hard to figure. You need to keep the weight over each axle less than 7k. So 14k combined for the pair of axles is max. But the total load on the trailer is supported by both the axles AND the hitch. So I assume they get their 15,900# GVWR cause they are assuming 1900# tongue weight.

Either way, 10.5k is a good number for a 14k trailer IMO

I have to haul a 5065E with MX8 cutter. Tractors weights 5500# and MX8 is about 1700#.

Also, How does it handle the load with single tandems instead of duals? I try figure out if I would get the singles vs the duals. Cost savings.

I would stay away from duals. I had a 25,000# gvwr trailer the same size as your looking at. It had duals and was a pain. I hate dually trucks also so take that into consideration.

Tires were more expensive due to the odd size vs the 235/85/16 tires my now triple axle with singles uses.

I would take triple axle trailer any day of the week over one with duals. Servicing the inner brakes, tires, and bearings were a pain on the dually trailer.

It will handle the load just fine as long as you say under 10.5k. And with your tractor and cutter coming in at 9200, I think you will be just fine.

Duals are for heavier loads. And usually the trailer is built heavier (and heavier axles). Dual tandems are usually 24k trailers. My dual tandem has a GVWR of 29,xxx, a max payload of 24k, and an empty weight of ~6500#. It would be overkill and money wasted if you never plan to haul anything heavier than your 5065e and cutter.

That's only 7200? more than enough trailer esp because it is a gooseneck. I have never had any issue with the single wheels. In fact I had more issues by far with the dual wheels loosening up with heavy loads. Switched to a 3 axle gooseneck and never had another tire or axle issue. Hauled between 14k and 16k with 0 issues. The trailer was gross rated at 21000 and it ended up at 22000 with 2600lbs on the pin so about 20000 on the 3 axles. Best set up I have had for larger loads other than a Semi. CJ

Typo on my part. I meant 7200# and not 9200#:confused2:

I drive a F-350 with duals. I use it to pull my 40' toyhauler. I like having the dual wheels on the truck to handle the weight in the invite of a blow out. I like to cost saving of going with singles on the trailer......

I agree. It will only haul the tractor and cutter. May get a batwing finishing mower later but it will still be within the weight range.
