You mentioned CDL a while back. Once you go commercial and the GCWR exceeds 26,001 lbs. you must get a CDL. If the trailers GVWR is over 10,000 lbs. then you must have a class A CDL. Same thing needed for a tractor and trailer. If you will be moving fuel and the tanks is designed to hold more than 120 gal(IIRC) then you are in need of a hazmat liscence. If you need move a tank that is over 1050 gal you need a tank endorsement. Then there is the DOT number that is needed at 10,001 lbs. company name, home city and state plus DOT must be on each side of vehicle and readable from 50 feet away. This is federal regs so your state maybe more strict.

People misquote regs all the time. Do the research for your home state. (I have my cdl) 10k does not immediately mean cdl just for your info.

I am sorry. I realize now that I was not clear. I also carry a CDL. I was trying to help without making a book. The trailer and tanker requirements don't kick in until after the CDL requirement is hit (26,001 lbs). Now hazmat is different the reason for the class C CDL once you reach the hazmat qualification then the CDL kicks in. Also air brakes will kick in a CDL. This is why there is an air brake test when you go get your CDL. Class B & C CDLs don't require the air brake but A's will. Or at least that's what the state trooer that give mine said.

And yes it changes by state. Had a Vehicle enforcement officer tell me KY uses the federal rules we don't have any extra state laws for CDLs.

You know not what you talk about here.

There are zero differences in air brakes between class A, B and C CDL's. All three can be had with or with out air brakes.

Redneck was correct. 10k trailer alone doesn't require a CDL.
