Max won't start ?

Used the tractor yesterday everything was fine. It's a Max 22 Went to start it this morning and it cranked with some white smoke coming out the exhaust, but wouldn't start. Cracked the fuel lines at the injectors and basically dry. Just to be on the safe side, replaced the fuel and air filter still wouldn't start. Disconnected the fuel lines from the injectors and cranked the engine, nothing came out. This engine, which is a Mitsubishi motor, has a small round metal electric fuel pump upstream of the injector pump and down stream of the filter. I disconnected the discharge of the pump and it squirted fluid when I turned the key on. Does this mean the the mechanical pump/distributor is toast or am I missing something. Only diesel experience was an old 1981 diesel rabbit.

Is fuel getting to the filter? The easy fix would be something in the bottom of the tank plugging the fuel from flowing out of the tank.

Beyond that hopefully a Max owner will jump in. Seems their is an easy to fix electrical item that has been discussed. Something about a hidden fuse or something like that......a search here would bring it up.

Fuel is getting from the tank, through the filter, to the electric fuel pump discharge to the mechanical fuel pump/distributor inlet. With the key on the electric fuel pump squirts a steady stream of fuel. However nothings coming out of the mechanical fuel pump/distributor at the injector connection. I don't think it's an electrical or interlock issue because fuel's getting to the mechanical pump with the key on, but I could be wrong. I did a search and the hidden fuse issue is with the Emax which is a totally different machine, the Max is a Mistubishi machine and is similar in design and build to a number of the Mahindra compacts.

There have been issues with a faulty fuel solenoid on the Max models, which affected my neighbor's Max 28. I don't recall any details of the problem, don't know where the solenoid is, and don't know if it would affect the Max 22, but there have been a few posts about it here on TBN.

Thanks for the lead. Did a couple of searches on the solenoid and am pretty convinced it has to be the problem. I didn't realize it was on the injector pump. That would explain why I'm getting fuel to the pump but nothing at the injectors. The solenoid has two inputs a pull and hold and I've checked and both are getting 12v. Will pull the solenoid later today and bench tests it.

Pulled the solenoid put 12v to the pull terminal and nothing happened for about 30 sec then the solenoid actuated. Cycled it a few times seemed to be working. Cleaned everything up the connector was really dirty, put it back in and it fired right up. So don’t know if it’s borderline bad or dirty connectors were the problem. But thanks for the help and I learned something so if it happens again I know where to look

Glad something in the back of my memory was helpful (seems like the only trick to taking advantage of what I learn on TBN is being able to remember it). And now that has jogged my memory more, and I think I remember that the problem may have been related to the wiring harness and maybe corrosion. So it makes sense.

When I was trying to figure out what was going on I came across the service manual for the Mitsubishi SL3 motor which is what's installed in my tractor and a number of other Mahindra models and thought I'd share a couple pages on the procedure for installing the stop solenoid and a couple
of schematics. Might help the next person who does a search
