Re: Maxxis Bighorn Radials on Chrome ITP\'s

Yes, the traction problem seems to be with the "worksite" model tires.

I thought the RTV looked wider with the chrome ITP wheels on it, so I measured this morning. It is 1 1/2" wider with these wheels. The tires in the rear stick out from the fender extensions by about 1/4" on each side. That does not seem to be enough to sling water or mud (my yard is still really wet after the 4" of rain yesterday). In the front, the tires are still within the fenders, so that is not an issue. It looks like these wheels are as wide as you can go without being outside of the fenders. I guess a little wider stance is just an added perk. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif I'll take the possible additional stability anytime.

Dargo,

I haven't measured mine but it looked to me like more than 1.5" total (or did you mean 1.5" on each side?).
I had my rims reversed which gave me 2" wider stance (1" each side) before switching to these ITP's and these definitely seem wider. In any case, I too will take a wider stance anytime.

Those wheels really look good on your RTV! Those tires should be a big jump in traction over stock. I see that you used ATV Outfitters to order your wheels and tires from, good people to do business with. I ordered the 589's and the black wheels for mine, they should be here Monday. Your machine sure looks pristine. I washed and waxed mine and the next day it looked like a rolling dust ball. The cab seems to trap the dust when you have the doors off, but the cab will be nice this winter.

You know, I was going to say something about that. Hey Dargo, how do you keep it so clean?
I can keep mine clean until the time it dries after being washed. Between my kids climbing all over it and the fact most everything I have to ride in is dirt/mud, mine always looks filthy. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif
Between my neighbor and I, we've brought around 1500 ton of dirt into the yards to fill some low spots this year. (No, the RTV didn't help with the dirt). I can't even drive through the yard without getting dirty.

Dargo
I had no sooner posted to you when the big brown truck pulled up and brought my tires and rims. I put them on and have been out testing them.
Having no speedometer and going by a seat of the pants feel, it seems that the RTV has lost a little of it's top end speed. Not very much, but noticeable (maybe 2-3 mph). It feels a little loose in the curves on gravel at top speed. This is probably due to the large lugs in the tread. When it comes to mud these things are better than sliced bread. Going through mud, or up hill on wet ground, I was in 2 wheel drive where I used to have to put it in 4 wheel drive.
I am running 7 psi in all four tires. This is the recommended maximum air pressure for the 589's and is printed on the tires sidewalls. This low pressure might account for some of the loose feel at speed. These tires should be great for plowing snow, now I am ready for some cooler weather. Attached are a few pictures of the tires, note that my RTV is not nearly as clean as Dargo's.
