Right....but we're not talking about people. I think dogs do have feelings and some cognitive thought processes. As well as certain members of the ape family. I do not think they need 'health or life insurance policies' or should be left millions of dollars in a trust fund or all the other lunatic things that some folks come up with.

I think a companion can be two legged or four legged. For a human alone, a dog can be like a spouse in a sense. What is a spouse except a companion, especially as we grow older. They know your routine and behavior and can sense your moods. I think animals are capable of a lot deeper emotions and intelligence than we give them credit for, depending on the amount of time spent with them.

I heard about an old man that fell through the floor in his outhouse. This was only a few months ago. He lay at the bottom of this mess for two days until his pet pot bellied pig managed to stop a car in the road and alert someone to the situation. The man could have died. The pig acted. If that's not cognitive thinking, then I don't know what is. There was also a woman who had a heart attack and her pot belly laid down in the road in front of a car to stop it. I don't know if they understood the situation or if they understood the words, get help, who knows. Neither of these animals ever went into the road before these incidents.

I guess what I mean to say is that some animals are not more important than others, but that some animals are more important to some people than others.
