MERRY CHRISTMAS

Here's an image of the CNC machine. I'll send a few more. It's basically a router mounted to a frame that moves in the X, Y, and Z axis. I use a cutting software called V-Carve. The software is specifically designed for the sign industry, using V-shaped pointed router bits.

Here's another view. This is the first computer controlled machine that I've had in the shop. Much like running a printer or a plotter ... instead of applying ink, you are using a router bit to cut the wood.

I've been carving college and NFL logos. I download the logo from the internet and then use the software to "trace" it and convert it into a tool path. It takes about an hour to get the tool path file ready and another hour or so to do the cutting on the machine.

I typically engrave a Bible verse on the back. You can select any font and carve any size. ... very cool.

This logo is for you North-Westerners.

These carvings are approx 9-inches square made with Mahogany. After the CNC carve, it takes about 20-minutes of hand sanding to clean up some of the details. I wet-sand them with tongue-oil and then wipe them clean. ... repeat once or twice and then buff on some furniture wax.

Carl, We had a conversation a few years back about a young man from the Tri-cities area. ... well, to make a long story short, my daughter married him and they are now setting up a law practice in Spokane ... and me and the Mrs. are running up our frequent flier miles.

great stuff... It really looks great.

As for the conversation, thank you for reminding me. I do remember. The ended up in Spokane? Oh- well ;-) Are there grand kids? If so when are you moving?

A friend of mine's husband built his own router table like that many years ago, before you could really buy them. I think his will do a tad over 4'x8'. He does a lot of work for the high-end RV industry, fancy airplanes and rich folks that like to have ornate carvings. The most impressive thing I saw him do was ornate crown molding in a round room and all the trim and grapvines on the curved door to the room! Its incredible stuff, for sure. The art is all in the setup of the file. Once that's done, the machine does exactly what its told to do. Most impressive.

I have one of those tables that I had planed to set up for plasma cutting, and perhaps do some routing.

Can you tell me the purchase price of the V curve, or a link to the company.

V-Carve software is produced by a company called Vetric. The software can be a little pricey, but it's very good. The website is Vetric.com. They sponsor some very good forums and all the folks there are very helpful.
