I am a TOTAL fan of Messicks!
In my opinion, they can do no wrong!

Last week I ordered a very thin (soft cover) parts manual, a 4" square muffler gasket, and two very small foam pads.
Total shipping weight including box, .....less than two pounds, shipped to zone 1 from Messick's.
Shipping charge (FedEx ground) was $22.78.
OUCH!

I took the package to the P.O., and their priority mail charge would have been $9.25.
I called Messick's, and they apparently ship everything FedEx ground,..... UNLESS you request USPS.
I am accustomed to most sellers shipping via the most cost effective method.
Messick's does not do this, but will ship USPS on request.

They stated that the FedEx ground package rate starts in the low $20's.
The lesson learned here is to ASK for your shipment to be made via USPS, if you want low cost shipping.

Note: Messick's adjusted the shipping cost to account for the disparity.
As ALWAYS.......I LOVE BUYING FROM MESSICK'S !!!!!

Not just Messick’s (also a fan), but due to our location if USPS isn’t specifically offered, I ask. Can usually get USPS Priority from most people at reasonable rate. Often times USPS shipping is not only less expensive, but faster than UPS or FedEx ground.

Your right about "faster".. I ship all my repaired pumps back, USPS 2-3 day delivery..
I GET a lot of pumps by UPS.. Several pumps come from Texas or California.. I get the package 7-10 days from date of shipment.!!!
THATS an insane amount of time to be riding on a truck.!!!
AND it costs MORE..
Last month, one of my suppliers told me they worked out "a deal" w/ Fed-x & now their shipping rate was actually 2.00 cheaper than USPS..
I asked if that was a "gimmick" just to get their business & the rates would increase..??
They said, NO.. it was/is permanent..
The delivery time was the same.. & it was like they said, 2.00 cheaper than USPS..

Some places make money off shipping, I've been charged say 10 bucks for shipping and label states 2-3 bucks. Also some companies just use a certain company, some have bulk deals etc. Hard to say on shipping it is what it is.

I guess if you don't have access to a local dealer. Messicks will work (and I have bought stuff from them and Coleman in the past, however, my local dealer and Messicks and Coleman are very close in price and I get an across the board 10% discount on all parts from my dealer with NO shipping charges. Consequently, I buy from my local Kubota dealer unless what I need isn't in stock (usually is). If it's not and I need it asap, I get it from Messicks or Coleman.

I have a philosophy about dealing local as well... If you don't support your local dealer, at some point he won't be in business and you lose them. Been doing business with my local dealer for at least 20 years and numerous tractors, implements and parts and I can depend on them for excellent service (when I require it) as well.

Neither Messicks nor Coleman can provide that for me. Internet purchases are all well and good but if you need hands on service or repairs, the Internet is worthless.

One hand washes the other. And im all for any business making as much money as possible and going local to an extent. BUT. I got local dealers that charge 30-40% more than parts I can find on the internet. A few bucks extra to keep them in business, sure. But comes a point.

I find local dealers to be fine as long as you can get reliable service when you need it and parts at a reasonable price. Not all people are fortunate to have "local" dealers who offer both. That's where driving past the local dealer and the internet makes a lot of sense.

Good point.

Several generations ago, our family had a small town hardware store 12 miles from a medium city. When the discount stores arrived in that nearby city, many of our customers just bought the nickel-dime items from us (handy) and made their larger purchases where we couldn't compete on price. The guy that bought our store eventually went under. Afterward, the whole town had to go to the city for bolts, wrenches, ammo and everything. Where is the economy in that, when your broken down corn picker needs a 3/8-24 bolt?

There isn't, but over the long haul driving say a few extra miles saves money, now while it is worth it or not is up to the individual. Same goes for groceries, I could go local and save myself 20 mins in the car but they cost 10-20% more of a years time thats probably 1000-2000 in savings, sorry but not sorry
