I have the Lobo it works great. light weight, durable and easy on the batterys. It is a specialized gold machine. i have found a lot of nice nuggets with it. it really depends on what you are using it for. gold nuggets, civil war, beach combing, competition hunts, i don't know about the technology i read a few magazines. talked to a few dealers. from what they told me and what i read. web page i bought it.

Yes they are one of the best brands,just the ones I have seen do not have a readout,it does not bother the pro's.

I guess I just do not know enough about them.They are highly rated.

i have a 1985 whites coinmaster 6000/DI series 3. when i bought it new it cost around $500.00 or so. has the ID meter, that tells you what it is before you dig it. that featue worked very well. the new units have more bells and whistles, and a little more seeking depth. i have had a detector(cheapie) since i was a kid, and used government issued detectors in the military to find mines.
you cant go wrong with fisher, garrett, whites, or tesoro.. i tried a bounty hunter brand back a few years and it worked good too.. the nice thing about hunting is the detector will pay for itself.. i just wish i had more time to use mine..

One more tip. Most detectors have interchangable search coils, and can use between 2 and 4 (maybe more) different coil sizes. The big ones will penetrate deeper, the small ones are better for areas where there are lots of "targets" in a small area, and for getting into tight spots. They usually come with a medium size coil, and you have to decide if you want something different. This is something that a good dealer could help you with.

The coils on the GoldBug are eliptical, and are a big help in getting around brush, roots, and large weeds.

I just checked the Fisher web site. They run from about $100 to $165 depending on size and model.

It depends on what you're looking for, and where, but I doubt that you'd want more than 1 extra coil. The standard coil usually does a great job in most situations.

By the way, if you really want to go deep, Fisher has a finder that has a transmitter on one end of a pole, and a reciever on the other for about $600. You can get as much as 20' deep with it. You do have a backhoe, don't you?!? /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Do you know what the name or model no. is on this Fisher detector?

Will this same model be able to distinguish between types of artifacts, even at the 20' level? Certainly don't want to dig down 20' just to recover a horseshoe or something like that. /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif Thanks.
