I own a Kubota model L3240. Overall, I have been very pleased with this tractor. However, there is one annoying problem that I had shortly after getting it.
The side covers on the engine are secured using plastic quarter turn fasteners. Within a few months of owning my brand-new tractor, one of the fasteners broke. I was appalled at the $8 cost to purchase a replacement plastic fastener. I bit the bullet and bought it anyway. Then several months later, another of these plastic fasteners broke. I wasn't going to spend another eight bucks on a part that I felt should've been metal.
I recently found and installed metal replacements for all of these fasteners. On my tractor there are four of them, two for each of the side engine covers. You have to remove these panels to do a lot of maintenance work, so I suspect some of you will be breaking your clips too.
From eBay, I purchased a set of 10 "Quarter turn motorcycle faring fasteners". I got the ones that were 17 mm in length. If you go to eBay and do a search on "Quarter turn motorcycle faring fasteners", you will see what I am talking about.
These fasteners come with both the pin and the receiver. They are great replacements for the plastic pan and plastic receiver used on Kubota tractors. In some cases, you may wish to add a fender washer, which is a large washer with a small hole in the center, in order for the fastener to not pull through. You could even add more than one washer if you found the clips to be too loose, although you can also band the receiver tab slightly to increase the tightness. I have attached photos of the old and new fasteners.
