Metal shavings in hydraulic fluid???

So I went to change out all hydraulic fluid today. When I got to the screen it is a bit concerning as there are shavings and chunks of metal! Lots. Should I be concerned? ‘01 JD 4300 hydrostat

Use it and don’t worry about it. I bet it has never been changed. I would bet 85% of tractors have never had the hydraulic oil changed. I am not saying it’s ok not to do it but just stating the fact that a lot of people don’t change hydraulic fluid. If it functions properly then you should be fine.
