I was looking at a meteor snowblower today and I was wondering if anyone knows what the chain does that is wrapped around the pto shaft where it meets the blower fan? Is is a shear bolt type attachment or does it join the pto shaft to the fan shaft?
Any input is welcome.
thanks dylan

I would think it would be to support the shaft in the event a shear pin breaks and it slides of the fan shaft.

Good evening Dylan,............ Are you refering to the chain that prevents the outer cover on the PTO shaft from turning ? That is the only chain that I can think of. Have a safe and Merry Christmas. Garry :D

The driveshaft has a chain on each end. You clip one chain to the tractor and the other to something on the blower. It keeps the driveshaft cover from rotating. You have to make sure you grease the fittings on the cover. You will notice little plastic grease fittings, without grease the cover will not operate properly.

Hi Dylan - does it look something like this? This is a chain-type flexible coupling - a piece of two-row chain wrapped around face-to-face sprockets.

These are sometimes used in machinery to accomodate small misalignment between drive components. Flexible couplings allow shaft centerlines to be slightly off and still be coupled without shims and tedious assembly work. The sprockets are often keyed to the shafts and usually are not shear devices.
