mf 1010 hydro

I'm having trouble with my hydrostatic drive and may have to rebuild it. can someone whose done it before tell me if it was easy or would I be better off to take it to the dealer. I have the 1300 page service manual, but would like to get some input from others. any help would be appreciated.

I do not know if this is your problem or not but it is quite common with a 1010 Hydro. The hydraulic drive pump is driven by the PTO shaft internally. When the tractor PTO is used heavily, like a tiller,
it causes the shaft to flex, and by doing so damages the pump, then nothing works. If you think this may be it, price the pump, or see if it's still available, this may affect your decision.

thanks for the information, but I'm not getting any charge pump pressure reading or no reading when in neutral.could that flexing cause that ?

The hydraulic drive pump I was refering to, is the charge pump, and the flexing damages/breaks the pump.

that would certainly explain why I show no pressure reading on the pump. could you tell me if you ever rebuilt a pump and motor,and if so, how hard was it ? I have the manual but maybe it's harder than it looks.

The PTO shaft actually, if that is the problem, breaks the pump. Like I said check the price of a new pump, and if they are availible, before you spend any money at all. If you do replace the pump, it will probably break again in the future. It is a design flaw.
