G'day arc wewld.
If neccessary you may select CONSTANT PUMPING Which will yes as described supply hydraulic pressure from the pump at relief valve pressure approx 2500 psi,but when you select external on the Single Beecraft selector (which operates Differently than the massey external dual function spool you have) valve this will then eliminate the hydraulic systems ability to READ from the linkage Draft /Position cam
unless you operate the linkage Past the normal transport position.
When you select External on the Selector valve You will now control ALL hydraulic functions on the control spool,including the linkage,if say you want to add tilt rams,hydraulic toplink etc all that is required is to ADD another spool to the existing controls.

and yes it can sometimes be difficult to explain, if dexter needs a drawing I will sketch one up and post it.
