When you fit the rope seal , if you have a "tail" left over, it should be pulled out and refitted. You need to pack it in HARD to make it fit correctly.
NOTE when you go to split the tractor wedge the front axle first, so the engine does not flop over.

OK , Will do ! Perhaps I may have fallen short in the rush on my first attempt. I have ordered the "UK made" replacement seal this time. Thanks for the "wedge" tip......... normally, I would have left it hung on the crane to prevent that issue....

Ralex1, the reason for the wedge is because, usually the front end is lighter to roll forward. In this part of the country most tractors have liquid filled back tires. Hanging the front in a crane means you need to roll the rear section back, and my mechanic friend says the weight means the rear can be frustrating to realign compared to the lighter front end.
