I didn't use anything to stop the sided to side movement where the top link mounts. I was going to but it doesn't seem like it needs it. On mine it looks like if you needed more clearance for the PTO cover at the gearbox end you could bend the metal shield tabs up slightly (steel tabs painted red that are attached to the shield on one end and bolted to the top of the gearbox on the other end.)

Thanks... My problem with the cover was for the "bit" to gear box covers (the one that has 2 sides with wing nuts) not the PTO cover.
I just had to remove about a inch or so to clear the last run (twist) on the bit. Not sure if you can see in my picture how far that twist goes on my bit. LOL if I am understanding your post, sometimes I read more then what is there or not there.
