Hi Guys
I just got everything serviced and my MF 165 started to leak some oil from the filter. I tighten the nut and man it really leaked then. I was going to replace the old filter. IT is the kind that has a metal casing and there is a screw threw the center. I found a site that will sell me a new top and oil filter to replace with a regular screw on kind. But they asked me how many liter the engine was and I have no idea. This is a perkins diesel. I am not sure how old the tractor is but must be at least 30 years old. I dought this will be any help but it was a napa oil filter 1188, that used to go in the old oil filter. The serial number on the tractor was almost impossible to read a few years ago. So I do no think that will help me now.

Hi Michelle, we have the same tractor. It's a 203.5 CI engine..that's 3.3 Liters. Oil capacity is 8.5 quarts.

Hi Guys
I am not sure how old the tractor is but must be at least 30 years old. Michelle

by the way, they were made from 1964 -1975. So at least 34 years old. What a great tractor. I have nothing but good things to say about them. They're like tanks - you can't kill them. How many hours are on your tractor?

Another question if you do not mind? I was on a web page that had replacements for those old oil filters. You had to replace like a head and then you could use a screw on oil filter does anybody know that web page I did not bookmark it and now I can not find it again.

The massey has only 1800 hours on it. I would love to get it restored as I love it and I have a john deere. The hydralics on the JD so much faster and I have forks for it so I use the deer more digging post holes and finishing mower, but when I need to move dirt or extra horse power for brush hog I always use the Massey. It has become an old friend!

thank you

I just use the standard filter I get from the local massey dealer. I don't know anything about replacments. There is a guy on here FarmWithJunk I think is his name, he seems quite knowledgable so maybe he can help.

As for 1800 hours - that's not even broken in yet :) I'm like you, my Kioti has better hydraulics, brakes, tranny, 4wd and such so I like it for most chores but I keep my massey for brush hog and backhoe use. I'll never part with it.

You can get the filter adapter through a number of aftermarket sources, as well as through MF/AGCO dealers. What you want is the filter head for a MF 255. (essentially the same engine as a 165, even so with later 255's that have a few more cubic inches) The 255 came with a spin on filter. Then you just buy a spin on filter for the 255, and you're good to go.

Sounds as if you're missing the o-ring that seals the base of the filter canister. I tossed the canister filter in favor of a spin on filter on my '71 MF150 years ago. They're an aggrevation in my book.

G'day Michelle check out the bare co site their part no B1535 gives you the spin on adaptor for your 165 i don't know how they work over there i.e mail order or if you have to go to one of their dealers. Good luck:)
