MF 230 no start, need help

I was shredding and it acted like it ran out of fuel, died. Fyel in the tank, I changed fuel filter, tried priming with lift pump, could not get it to prime. Pulled tank, checked inside and clean. Pulled fitting on bottom of tank, it’s clean and I can blow through it, no obstruction. Checked line from tank to filter, no obstruction. Put back together and appears to be leaking at lift pump. I got a edelbrock electric diesel pump5-9psi. Put it inline coming from tank to filter housing, ( bypass manual lift pump) still no fire. Soak rag in gas, hold over air filter housing and it will run off vapors. Cracked the front 2 injector lines, got fuel coming out of cracked open fittings while it’s running with gas rag. Tighten lines up, will not fire off.
Only way I can get it to run is with gas rag over air filter housing.
What am I missing?

I pulled line at injector pump coming from fuel filter and it’s a strong stream of fuel shooting out

Hard to diagnose. As with all diesels all it takes is fuel, air and compression. One of the 3 is missing. What makes it strange is you have fuel squirt out of the injector lines, it will run on fumes, and it turns OK. If it were some sort of fuel shutoff malfunction you would not get squirts. Maybe some sort of air intake obstruction letting it run on gas fumes but not normal conditions...? I'd try taking everything off the air intake and see if it runs. How many hours on it? Any chance compression is marginal? But that seems unlikely because part of the mystery is that it just quit while running normally... strange.

timing on injector pump slip? is pressure correct? know its flowing but...

I’ve let it set for 9 months while on RV trip. Fired right up with a hot battery. Always has fired on basically first hit of the key. I’ve owned a couple yrs, never an issue. No clue on hours, meter does not work. I’ll check pressures at injectors. That’s about the only other thing I can think it might be. I was hoping there was a magical known issue causing this.
