Update: flushed tank 3 more times, put it back together and got it started tonight.

I have a MF251 and had similar problems. If this happens again after flushing the tank and new filter - put an inline fuel filter in the line coming from tank and check
the little screen inside the fuel petcock (it may have some debris in it). Replace the inline fuel filter from the tank at 6 month intervals.... at least once.
