MF 500 Series

Just saw on the MF web site where they truly are coming out with the all new 500 series tractor, looks like new hood,and maybe cab design judging from the picture, still no info on the new 1560 yet, seems their web site dosn't get updated very often like maybe december of last year

I saw one of the new 500 series at the local Massey dealer last week. I think the one that I saw took the place of the 481. About the only thing changed was the grill and the new ones have the fuel tank underneath the left foot rest like the older 491 and 492 had. I think that the dash is slightly changed too but that was about it. Hopefully the quality control is improved on them too. From what I have heard many of the 400 series were plaqued with quality control problems.

Does anyone know what engine it is using? Sisu or Perkins?

Hey,

I wondered the same thing? I guess it may depend if they up the HP rating to compete with other utility tractor lines. We may see a SISU in them after all!! Thanks for the link!!

From all that I have seen of the 500 series they still use the same Perkins engines that the 400 series used. The local dealer has one of the 8000 series and it has the Sisu engine. I thhink that the 5000 series, which is a higher end tractor up from the old 400 series or the new 500 uses the Perkins too

I'm pretty sure the 500 series still uses the same Perkins engine that the 400 series did. The 500 series is probibly the same tractor as the 300 series Challengers.

The 500 Series are just updated versions of the 400 series and still use 3 and 4 cylinder Perkins engines. The Challenger 300 Series is the same as the MF 3600 Series which you haven't seen yet and won't see pictures of until the dealer new product intro in St. Louis later on this month. The 3600 Series will have 3 cylinder SISU motors and basically be a "bridge" between the low-spec 400 Series and the higher spec-ed (and heavier) 5400 series (which use both Perkins and SISU motors).

There will be 3 models in the 3600 Series I believe 55, 65, 75 hp. Powershuttles will be an option as well as cabs. The 3600 series probably won't show up on dealer lots until later on this fall.

I thought all the 5400 series tractors used perkins. I know for sure all the 4 cylinder models do and I think there's only one 6 cylinder model, the 5465 and I figured it used the same 6 cylinder perkins as the three smallest models of the 6400/7400 series tractors.
