MF GC 2300 broken muffler flange

Was using the tractor the other day and could hear a strange sound comming from under the hood.I put my [gloved hand ] on the muffler and the noise would stop.I first figured it was the tin around the muffler that was ratteling.I took a hammer and tapped[put a small dent into the tin] and the noise stopped.I used it like that for a couple hrs with no more noise.The next day I used it again and no noise for awhile then it started again off and on.Finally it continued to make noise and get louder.I finally started taking a good look to see and couldn't really see anything.I used a screw driver and put it against the bolts and the muffler flange and noticed the pipe moved around a bit.Took the muffler off and sure enough the flange was broken away from the pipe.I ended up welding the flange back on and it's been good to go since then.Thats the nice thing about a AC/DC reverse polarity welder.Anyone else have the flange break off there muffler like that.Larry

Fortunately, not yet, Larry-- how many hours on it? Wondering if that's something we other 2300-series owners have to look forward to....

It was a busy day using the tractor so just took it apart,fixed it and went right back to work with it so didn't take any pics. The tractor has 1443 hrs on it as of today:thumbsup:[I know because checked to see when the oil change is due] guess that'll be comming up soon.Larry

The muffler mounting bracket cracked at about 600 hours. Made the strangest squeeking noise. I took it off and welded it. It hasn't given any trouble since. [ about 900 hours now ].
