Here's what I know:

battery checks out at 12.24 volts.
tractor won't turn over.
jumped, it will turn over until the jump starter quit .but not start, tho it did a couple of times yesterday.

My best guess:
starter is faulty?

Any helpful tips or ideas?

Battery is weak, a fully charged battery should be at 12.6 to 12.8 volts

I agree with 32 chev. To confirm charge your battery. Measure the voltage. Continue your measurement as someone attempts to start the tractor. The voltage may drop clear to zero. Of course you should clean the battery terminals and the connectors, tightening fully when done. Clean and tighten the ground connection where it meets the frame, too.

Can you clarify what you are saying here?

Are you saying that when jumped, it cranks and starts? And are you saying that as long as the unit from which it is being jumped remains connected, it will continue to run?

And finally, are you saying that as soon as the jump battery connection is removed, it dies?

I too am leaning toward a failed battery. There is likely a fuel cut off solenoid on your engine that drops out and stops fuel flow if the battery is low.. and you did not measure the battery voltage under load. A dead cell might produce these symptoms.

Seeing u cranked quite a bit, your probably gonna hafta bleed the air out of it before it’ll start..
If u turn the engine off w a key switch..
MAKE SURE u energize the shut off solenoid on the injection pump.. otherwise it’ll just spin and spin..
Loosen the inlet line AT THE INJECTION PUMP to make sure u have fuel there..
Next loosen up the lines AT THE INJECTORS..& spin the engine until fuel squirts out of the steel lines and tighten..
it should start now..

Update:

Battery charger was bad, so 24 hrs at 2 amps and then overnight at 10 amps did nothing. I took the battery into a dealer who charged it up and determined it to be good. Put it on and tractor started up! Checked voltage when running and tha confirms the alternator is no good.

I'm considering an after market (cheaper) replacement. I welcome your thoughts and suggestions.

THANK YOU, ALL, FOR ALL OF YOUR HELP!!!
