MF TLB GC2410
Hi,

I have just acquired a MF TLB GC2410 along with a rural property, and it won't start. Before assuming that the previous owner left me with something that doesn't work, thought I would see if I am missing something simple.

Have checked fuel and oil level. Both are fine. When turn the key from stop to on, it starts clicking. Nothing changes when I turn it to start. It does not turn over, just the clicking noise.

My first assumption was battery. Hooked up a booster. No change.

Suggestions?

Thanks.

Is the clicking sound when you actually turn the key to the crank position, or when the key is in the on position?
Reason I ask, is that if you are only hearing the electric lift pump (assuming it has one) then I would suspect a safety switch problem. If the starter solenoid is clicking, there is a low voltage condition to the solenoid and / or starter.
Just some general places to start are removing and cleaning to bare metal the battery and ground connections, check voltage on the starter solenoid (trigger) wire (while trying to start).

Possible safety switch locations are seat, brake, clutch, pto, neutral safety (gear shift neutral or hst pedal neutral).

Be sure tractor is in "NEUTRAL" and try jumping the starter solenoid (hot wire from battery plus to trigger terminal on starter solenoid), if that works and engine will crank, problem may be as described above, bad relay, or one of various safety switch's...

Clicking is the fuel pump. 3 Safety interlocks on a regular GC 1)transmission range selector (Rabbit - neutral - turtle), 2)seat pressure switch, 3)PTO on/off selector must be disengaged. Not sure if the backhoe adds any others.

Then again you could have a bad cell in the battery and short on amps

Thanks for the responses. The clicking happens with the first turn of the key, into the accessory position, and continues through all the other key positions. There are four positions - stop, accessory, run, and start.

Battery terminal clean will be next step. Thought a booster clipped to the battery terminals should have pushed enough current through, but maybe not.

safety switches would be my guess as well.

Something similar in another thread.
I have a 2310, so about 99% the same.
Mine was a ground cable between the engine block and frame. Forget which side but lower down.
Its's a little thinner than my baby finger and 8-10". The eyelet that bolts onto the frame is crimped onto the ground wire. Mine broke at the crimp. It's stiff enough to look like it's still in place but you're not getting complete contact. Mine would start intermittently and sometimes stall while working.
If you're lucky it's a cheap (8$) and simple fix.
Check it at both ends. I think when the wires were assembled they over compressed them and over time wiggle and crack.

In my experience, 90% of the time its the switch/selector position. The other 9% its my starter sticking, just have to give it a little tap, 1% for the rest.
