Massey Ferguson TO 35
My first ever Tractor! Live PTO, double clutch. I have a few questions for those who know about these tractors. I need to fix the headlights and I am curious about the switch that seems to turn the headlights on. One setting has "1-L" and the other has just "L". What do these mean? 2nd question: What applications do you use the "ground speed PTO" for? Last question: Can I or should I use synthetic oil in the continental gas 4 cyl and what weight of oil should I use? Thanks.

Instead of guessing on that lamp switch.. if it is an oem part.. look at the wire diagram in your manual... Or pull it and use an ohmmeter on it and 'see' what it does.

Ground speed pro might be for something like a seeder spreader.. etc.. something that is governed by traveled distance.. etc.

Unless the engine is a recent rebuild.. I wouldn't go synthetic with it.. i'd use a good HD straight weight oil like 30w or 40w depending on temperature. If in colder climates.. perhaps a 20w50.. etc.

If I remember right the switch should be I then I-L then L.
I is ignition.
I_L is ignition and lights.
L is just lights.
Sometimes you might want to have the lights on without putting power to the ignition circuit. I think I heard once that it would save the points but I can't swear to it.

You are going to really like that tractor. I have a 1962 Massey Ferguson 35 with power assisted steering. I have a Davis loader and backhoe for it. That loader is handier than a pocket on a shirt

I have never used ground speed PTO and can only guess at the use. Maybe a cyclone seeder but even that may be a stretch.

With the money you saved by buying your Fergy you will be able to outfit it well with attachments. I like the new four wheel drive tractors with all the bells and whistles but I just can't afford one at this time. Mine has done all that I ask of it. I also have a Massey Harris 50, same tractor different sheet metal and front axle. I have less in the two together than I would in one comparably priced new tractor.

Have fun and look up Big Dean's Massey Ferguson website. He is a wealth of knowledge.

Yep... don't want power to the points unless you are running.. or about to run.. otherwise they'll get excessively hot.. and that leads to a handfull of problems..
