!" solid shaft should be fine. Ask for streesproof shaft or T.G.P. precision shafting. Either one will only cost you about $15 unless they are hosing you. Keep us posted on your progress.

Hey thanks for the info wayne165.I had bougth a 1" shaft by 3' just for this purpose back in Oct, when I was building my quick hitch to mount my snowblower on.I was in a metal shop buying some material and mentioned to the guy that I'll need a 1" shaft for a pto shaft and he said to me I have just what you need. However I don't have any idea if its what you have mentioned that I should use.In reality it could be pto shafting or cold rolled so now not sure if I should use the piece I got from him or what.Trouble is I'am 1 hr from winnipeg and the one small shop in our town won't sell you any steel at all so I usually have to go into the city to buy a bunch at a time as the metal places won't sell you any either unless you pre order and have a minumum of x amount of $$$.So Kinda hoping you'll say that cold rolled would be ok otherwise not sure when I'll need to buy more again. As always Larry;)

Larry , Cold rolled will work as well. Just be sure it isn't hot rolled with the scale on. Cold is a nice smooth finish & will fit a bearing or u-joint fine. Hope this helps,Wayne

I have a tiller attachment for my old Bolens that uses a long drive shaft. When it came time to replace I went to Tractor supply and found a 1" by 7/8" shaft and out side tubing that had 6N yokes already welded to it. I don't have the blower attachment for my Massey but I would think this may be a source for a drive line. I have this type of shaft on my PTO chipper as well. Another good source for driveline parts is the Surplus Center in NE( good catalog and web site as well).

Finally got around to getting the shaft changed cut out the pipe and welded the 1" shaft in.Tried it out and it looks pretty straight while running. Thanks for the info now I'll feel better using it without fear of something happening and doing damage to the tractor.Larry;)
