something else, In your spare time? Have you looked closely at the oil filter adapter for a by-pass valve in it. Some autos have a pressure relief in the oil pump and in the filter base or adapter? I have had pegged oil pressure guages too in the past, but automotive type.. 2cents..

Those bypass valves usually work on differential pressure across the filter media. They operate at a low value [like maybe 5psi] so as to allow oil flow in an engine with clogged filter or cold oil. His symptoms would not be caused by a filter bypass malfunction.

True enough, it would not effect him...high oil flow is bypassed at 4 psi.according to my manual from the 70's....did not understand the oil pump output being so high? Common on this model?
