Mice under my bota's hood.....any cures ??

   / Mice under my bota's hood.....any cures ?? #21
I place glue board around my basement to catch bugs and spiders, but they seem to do as good a job of catching mice. Not very humane because they're usually stuck to it for days before they die (unless you drown them in a bucket of water), but they do seem to work very well.

In the shop, I use a combination of traps and block bait. I place mothballs in the boats, but not sure if it works, because I still find nests in them.

I picked up some cayenne powder, and dust along the walls where they like to run. They don't like hot feet! :)
Also have 4 cats that patrol the area regularly. Fun to play with too!

I had a simular problem with my new pickup which was parked in my garage fall of 07. The squirrels love the walnut trees behind the garage, during the fall they searched out and built a nest under intake of the 6.0L engine. They had a store of nuts and a nest made of leaves and the insulation from the hood. My truck is a Denali model that stays parked most of the week, I drive a 97 F150 to work and most of my hauling and construction materials. The Denali is a grocery getter at the moment so it has been idle up to 3 weeks. During the nest construction the varmints felt it necessary to remove the main wiring harness a $1,900.00 remodel. Peanut butter works very well and sealing off their access, however they are known shapeshifters.

I have the same problem with mice and chipmunks in my cars, boat, and grill. Mothballs seem to work in the interior of the boat, but not in the grill. It's difficult to keep mothballs under the hood of the car.
Peanutbutter on mousetraps works every time to catch them, but who wants to draw them in?
Let us know if you find something that works.

I have tried the moth ball deal and it hasn't worked. I've gone to the extent of putting the math balls around and under the poison packs and it hasn't stopped them from eating it all up. I found the only way I have stopped them is to keep replacing the poison packs until they are all dead and are not feeding any more. It takes awhile but it does work and cost a few bucks at $8 a 4 pack. (De-con Rat & Mice killer)

Ringtails are sure fire help.

When using traps be sure to squeeze some tootsie roll on with peanut butter on top.

De-con works best for me so far, but after reading on here I'm thinking about making and using the pepper spray.

In confined areas, moth balls work very well. In the barn we use mouse traps with peanut butter. I really doubt that "peanut butter draws them in," but catches the ones that are there. I have some special cars in a separate garage that I worry about and set up PB spring traps. We had the electrocution traps, but they have less success. I think the glue traps are cruel. I'd love a big mean cat, but my terrier would love it too....to chase and kill. Does a Jaguar count as a big cat?

The love the hood of my 250 gal LPG tank. They don't do damage but scar the crap out of you upon opening the hood to check the remaining balance.

When I took the dash out of my 7510 to replace the broken speedo cable, there was a mouse nest there. Think I'll place a net of moth balls there too.
regards,
Steve

I always had a problem when I put my '69 Mustang away for the winter. About 5 years ago my cousin told me to use dryer sheets (Bounce) and put them all over as he hasn't had a problem since he started doing it to his Mustang. I figured for the cost of it I would try it. I have purchased a box since then and use the whole box in the trunk, cabin, and motor and have never had a problem since. It is in the same garage it has been in for years. Is it coincidence? Maybe, but I will keep doing it until it proves wrong as the cost is minimal. I used Moth balls before one time and it took all summer to get the stink out of my car!! When it gets into the seat farbic it is forever to air out!! As far as "Bounce" being the only brand I can not tell you, but I keep buying it in case it is true. Works for me anyway.

I don't have a cure but comment on "Cab Fresh". I have used them in vehicles only to find that the mice have gone so far as to eat holes in the bag. Needless to say they don't work for me. Wish they did. Glad to those who have had sucess with them.
