( I use "RoPax"...little green balls that contain massive amounts of Vitamin K...rodents eat the balls and go away and die...hardly ever find a dead one...now I rarely see a live one, and they used to be thicker than maggots around the quail pens/feed room...

I get it at the local Co-Op...doesn't seem to bother any of the other critters either! /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I find this interesting, because vitamin K is what is used as an antidote for "Warfarin, etc." the ingredient in most mouse and rat poisons. Poisoned baits that contain anticoagulants, such as Warfarin, Pival and chlorophacinone are an anti coagulant that cause the mice to internally bleed to death. It also takes a few doses before it works. Contrary to popular opinion, it will not kill a dog. I know because my dog ate some and I called the animal poison control center (this call cost about $40 for the information) however, it can make them ill. It is also used as a blood thinner in heart patients in a medical form. Vitamin K is what they give to people (usually children) that have ingested mouse and rat poison. Hmmm. I believe you're mistaken here.

The mfg. label for Ropax states that the active ingredient is "Brodifacoum: 3-[3-(4'-bromo-[1,1'-biphenyl]-4-yl)-1,2,3,4-tetrahydro-1-naphthalenyl]-4-hydroxy-2H-1-benzopyran-2-one".

It goes on further to say, "If poisoning occurs, intramuscular and oral administration of vitamin K1 are indicated, as in poisoning from overdose of bishydroxy coumarin. For human cases, vitamin K1 is antidotal at doses of 10 to 20 mg (not mg/kg). "

Basically reading the label it appears this stuff isn't quite as "friendly" as you were led to believe.

Maybe I need to read the labels, instead of listening to the old "Guru" at the CoOp...just repeating what he told me...

When I had 30,000 bobwhite quail in pens, needless to say I had a definite rodent problem....wifey didn't want anything put out that would hurt any of the other critters she always has around.

I've seen her cats & dogs eat the pellets, and the mice that the pellets had killed....also watched the quail play "keep away" with the pellets...never lost a non-rodent critter to the RoPak to the best of my knowledge.

If I have misled anyone by repeating non-factual information...I am truly shamed and sorry /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

I've been dealing with this for years. Finally found the best solution. Go to Home Depot and buy some DeCon, or order some mice poison from this site .

But keep pets away from it! Do you have any pets that might get into it?
