Speaking of Louisiana, I had to laugh once when an announcement was made that our company was hiring a new engineer and his name was Gerry Boudreaux. There was about a 5 minute discussion the group had about whether it was right to pronounce his name as "Gary" - which he stated was the correct pronunciation - or if it should be "Jerry" because of the way it was spelled. Having worked in other parts of the US, it normally would have been the Boudreaux that is questioned as to the pronunciation and spelling. It did crack me up that day though... :)

Some of the best years of my life were spent in Sault Ste Marie. I was stationed there from '71 to '74 in USAF. I went back this past September to reminisce and look over the whole area. I don't think it changed a great deal in 45 years. It is a wonderful place.

I am looking out my office window as I type this and my view is across the St Mary's River at Sault Ste Marie Michigan. They did build a new Border Crossing building last year , and the TSC Store over there is always more interesting than the larger one we have over here on the Canadian side. With gas prices being hit with carbon taxes here in Canada for 2017 , I will be using that new border crossing more this year to fillup with Michigan gas !

Our fuel taxes went up to 26.3 cents per gallon, which will be adjusted for inflation each year.... plus 6% sales tax. We get to pay an extra 20% registration fees on each and every licensed vehicle we own. They say that someday, the roads will all be fixed up... IF, the money ever gets to the roads and if we remember what the money was for years from now... We voted in an extra $1 mill County tax for the roads a few years ago here in Otsego County, and have seen absolutely no road improvement yet... But, we soldier on... :)

I would take these pronunciations with a grain of salt. I have in-laws in Adrian and they all pronounce it Aid-run, not what that web page shows.

My family's farm is up in Sebewaing... I've only ever heard it as "See-ba-wing".

Last summer we stopped in Charlotte Michigan ... The locals there pronounced it "Shar-lot" which surprised me.

My mom's family have been here for a few generations. I don't know exactly where they got it from but they have a very slight drawl and pronounce Wash as "worsh" as in "worship". So a washing machine is a "worshing" machine. Could be just my family tho LOL.

I have a bunch of cousins that live in "See-ba-wing". My Mother was born there, my Father in Marquette. What a cool state!
