Brother, I have had to re-start my economic engine more times than a Yugo burning discount gas....
Having been thru several economic booms and busts over the last 40 years, and simply having to adjust my sails to the varying winds of Life, I have had more than a few jobs...often several at once....starting with....
Along with all of the above, I have managed to volunteer off and on with a bunch of Volunteer Fire Departments, Volunteer Ambulance Services, the American Red Cross and Habitat for Humanity....
My wife says I have an entrepreneurial spirit and a nose for opportunity...(and "ADD")....my Mom says "Get off the ****ing couch and get to work....!"
At 56, I am now a Paramedic working remote / hostile sites and wake up every morning LOVING what I do...and hoping this is the LAST paying job I ever need....but as they say..."Put Hope in one hand and youknowwhat in the other etc....."
....I am STILL looking for my next job....just in case....
ADVICE??
Here you are.....
Get a job....any job....or two....it's a lot easier to get a better one when you have one....get off the couch.....volunteering is great....but marshaling shopping carts at the grocery store pays a wage....
Do whatever you HAVE to, with WHATEVER skills you possess....and always keep your eyes and ears open for the next opportunity.
Try as hard as you can to find a job doing something you LOVE.... If not, the next best thing is a job that teaches you a new SKILL....
Do the smallest, meanest job to the best of your ability, and be respectful and helpful to every boss / client / customer you encounter....that happy customer may be your next Boss or point you to a better opportunity....
Don't be too proud to take the "Gummint Cheese" if you have to in order to get by......you PAID FOR IT when you paid your taxes....but GET OFF THE DOLE as soon as you can. More than a short exposure to "The System" will destroy your spirit as sure as narcotics....never forget the nice folks on the OTHER side of the desk have a vested interest in keeping you DEPENDENT ON THEM....so THEY don't have to go look for a danged job....
MOVE if you have to......I moved to Texas 35 years ago for work, and in exchange for a little hard work, the Great State of Texas has rewarded me with the woman and children of my dreams and riches beyond measure. GO WHERE THE WORK IS....
And Keep Swinging, Brother....a batting average of .325 means you were OUT the other 675 times up....
Keep in touch....
Terry
