I'm interested in finding out what brand of mid mount mowers are available in an 84" width for my NH TC40DA. I've found a few threads talking about the New Holland brand 914a, but would like to know if anyone has insight on possible aftermarket options. I believe that in any case I'm looking at having to inquire a mid PTO. Any advice is appreciated. Thanks.

Looking for some help. This topic could perhaps be categorized in the "attachments" forum, but it's so model specific I want to ask here. I have a lead on an 84" 914a mid mount mower for my TC40DA. It's used, and I don't have an understanding of what brackets the mower comes with or what I'll need. My understanding is that the brackets to mount these mowers can be very expensive from New Holland. In addition, I have a 16LA FEL on the tractor.

Is anyone familiar with this setup?
What is the total count of brackets that I should be looking for?
Will the FEL brackets already on the tractor interfere with the brackets for the mower?

Thanks,
Paul

I can't help you regarding the FEL/Mower setup, but if you visit Messick's you can use the parts diagrams to see what's needed to connect the mower to the tractor.
Are you sure your tractor doesn't already had a mid PTO? I thought the DA's came with it.

No mid PTO on my tractor but I can see the plate where it would install.

I actually checked Messicks yesterday shortly after I posted and found the parts diagrams. It's amazing what these brackets cost. Almost negates the idea of finding a good used mower if the brackets aren't with it. Total investment gets close to what a brand new leftover from New Holland costs. Highway robbery I tell you...

Open question still remains if my FEL brackets with allow me to install the front brackets if I still decide to go this route.

Have you considered a rear finish mower (RFM)? That 84"MMM is going to be a heavy chore to slide under.

Yeah, an RRM may be my last resort. I've got my reasons for preferring a mid mount. Thanks for looking..

Hi Pak,

I know this reply comes a few months after your post. I have a TC40D with 17LA front end loaded (17LA goes with the supersteer model tractor whereas 16LA goes with the non-supersteer) and 914A 84" mid-mount mower. The answer is yes, you can mount both. There is some significant hardware to mount which will stay attached to the tractor once installed. Once completed, mounting the mower on/off the tractor takes about 3-5 minutes. It's just a matter of connecting/disconnecting four pins and the PTO shaft. The hard part is installing the brackets AND the drop-down box that feeds into the cover you referenced above. Check with your dealer on price, but I know the drop down box and some of the required hardware was pricey. If you're still interested, reply to this and I will post some pictures.

Thanks for responding, it's been a while since I started my search. Since starting out on this endeavor I found a smoking deal on a lightly used mid mount 914A with all the brackets for $1500! Couldn't pass it up,...picked it up out of state, installed it about 6 weeks ago, and have been mowing with it since. I upgraded the 3pt lift rods with a larger dia. New Holland has a different p/n with a 3/4" rod versus the 5/8". The unit I picked up was in overall excellent shape however these two 5/8" rods were bent and had been repaired after being incorrectly adjusted by the previous owner. Using the 3/4" rods was an easy and well worth upgrade for $200, simply had to bore out the hole dia in the connecting point on the 3pt lift mechanism to make them fit.

I'm using the mower to mow between 9' spaced tree rows,...10 acres worth. The 7' mower is perfect for mowing between rows while the trees are still saplings. Benefit of the mid mount versus a rear mount is I don't have to crank my neck around to see what i'm doing and therefore less chances of accidentally hacking any trees.

Very happy with the purchase. New Holland did a nice job on these mowers as far as fabrication goes.

How long does it take to get that mowing done? (I'm curious because I opted for a 61" ZTR mower rather than attach a mower on my TC45DA)
